Shouri asked:

Because it is their time to die.
As for pain: It depends on how the person dies.
Most people of old age die in their sleep, but some can die of various diseases and ailments.

It’s because the body becomes weaker, and if they have no diseases, it’s likely because their body can no longer support itself.

When somebody loses al of their brain cells they die. When you get older your brain cells get used. But i don’t think it hurts to die of old age if you die in your sleep.

People don’t die directly from old age. They typically die from some condition, such as heart failure, or a stroke, which may be linked to old age.
The death is no more or less painful than when someone younger dies. What may be different in the very elderly are their thoughts and attitudes–many elderly feel that they’ve had a good life and it’s time to move on to whatever happens after death. Where a younger person may be fighting to stay alive, with whatever intensive medical care that can be provided, the elderly may peacefully pass into death, with the doctors providing only the medical care needed to ease any pain.

Growing old is dieing. Hence, why do we grow old in the first place? Our cells become damaged for a number of reasons. The common reason that affects everyone is oxidation. During oxidation, unstable free radical cells (lacking one electron and one proton) enters the body and tries to steel an electron and a proton from normal cells (having 2 electrons and 2 protons). These cells will now become damaged and will in tern try to steel election and proton from others creating a chain reaction. This process, when it happens fast is called combustion. When it happens slowly it is called rusting. Hence what really happens when we grow old is that we rust out. Damaged cells starts accumulating as our bodies brake down and we replace them with damaged parts, hence we start looking less attractive – a process we call growing old.
Withing the cells is found the mitochondria. The mitochondria is the body’s energy source. The mitochondria produces energy as ATP. For us to continue to look young and energetic means producing a lot of ATP. Everything in our body is dependent on ATP. We cannot live without it. As free radicals enters the cell and damages the mitochondria it becomes less efficient. Also some die off. This produces a decline of the ATP levels as we get older. The healthy cells are replaced by damaged cells. We start looking older get weaker and then die.
The speed of this process will be determined by how well we treat ourselves. If we include a lot of anti-oxidants in our diet then the processes will be much slower, we keep better health, look younger and live longer.
How much pain one has during old age leading up to death is determine by ones overall health. As to whether or not dieing at old age is painful is not known to living persons. We can only assume that the process is not painful, since no one has complained of such. When one dies one do not have feeling. The process of dieing from old age is a progressive one starting from the feet up. Hence the feet would have been dead before the head is. If the process was painful, then the dieing person would possibly complain of such. The ability to hear is said to be the last to go.
Probably we can somewhat compare dieing of old age to fainting. During this process, one becomes unconscious to the happening in ones surroundings and oneself.
