What is the youngest age from conception that a premature baby has survived early delivery? Links please?

Naturescent asked:

An article I just read:

In my files, I have six cases born at 21 weeks. Their weights range from 16 ounces to 24 ounces (540 – 810 gm).

I have eleven cases of survivors at 20 weeks. Their weights varied from 12 to 22 ounces (339 to 663 gm). There are two cases at 19 weeks including baby Kenya King who weighed 18 ounces (510 gm) and was 10 ½ inches (26.5 cm) long. She dropped to 13 ounces (370 gm), had heart surgery, survived and went home with her mother. We have her photo from the Miami Herald in our book. Our last contact with her was when she was about five-years-old, at which time she was a normal, healthy little girl. (Abortion Questions and Answers, pp. 98, 99, 2003.)

Finally, we have two cases at 18 weeks. Note: For a listing of eleven such early survivors, see the 1989 edition of Abortion Questions and Answers (Willke. Hayes Pub. Co. pp. 60, 61).

i dont have a direct link but i know they say babies have a strong chance of living after24weeks some at about 21 weeks. depending on what the terms for early term labor were for-their chances of pneumonia are great though.

MIAMI — The world’s smallest premature baby will remain in the hospital a few more days as a precaution, hospital officials said Tuesday.

Barbara Moore, spokeswoman for Baptist Children’s Hospital, said she did not have further details on why the doctors changed their mind about sending Amillia Sonja Taylor home Tuesday.

Doctors say Amillia is the first baby known to survive after a gestation period of fewer than 23 weeks. She was just 9 1/2 inches long and weighed less than 10 ounces when she was born Oct. 24. She was delivered after just under 22 weeks of pregnancy; full-term births come after 37 to 40 weeks.

The baby has suffered respiratory and digestive problems, as well as a mild brain hemorrhage, but doctors believe the health concerns will not have major long-term effects.

“Her prognosis is excellent,” said Dr. Paul Fassbach, who has cared for Amillia since her second day.

Amillia was conceived in vitro and has been in an incubator since birth. She has received oxygen and will continue to get a small amount even after she goes home.

I love the links these answerer’s have provided. My daughter was a preemie so I am always interested in these kinds of questions. There is a site.. The March of Dimes SHARE site. They have information about this too. There are a couple of 22 weekers and 23 weekers. In my state though they will not even resuscitate until 24 weeks…
