What can I do to help Mom feel better about aging?

sparkle asked:

I’m in college and my mom is 53 now. I went home this past weekend for a visit and she was constantly comparing my beauty to hers. She feels really old and down about the effects aging has on your body and face. I feel bad for her and I think she’s beautiful inside and out. What can I do to lift her spirits? I was thinking maybe a card or something Idk I’m not good with this kind of stuff…

Take her to a spa for a girls day out so she can get pampered and feel more youthful again. Shop for makeup, help her feel more confident about herself by helping her reinvent herself in little ways. She will feel alot better + get to spend time with you, great combo!

Well, sometimes just telling someone you think they are beautiful isn’t enough. You should take her to a spa for a makeover! Like a new haircut, facial mask, makeup, ect. The transformation would probably make her feel a lot better about her appearance.

    Hope this Helps!

Do something with her! Maybe something outdoors where you’ll both feel really good afterwards?
My mom is roughly the same age and whenever she is depressed about this sort of thing I spend time with her doing something that’s really great for self esteem. Also, since you probably have a better eye for fashion than she does and a more realistic view of what she looks like, try to get her to change her hair or clothes to something more flattering for her face or body.

You know your mom better than we do, but I wouldn’t do a card. She is just like every other woman or girl feeling insecure, she just needs reassurance that she is still beautiful. As her daughter, your opinion is one of the most important. If it were me and my mom, I would tell her that I’ve always looked up to her and wanted to be as beautiful as she is and I can only pray that I age as gracefully as she is. Explain to her that 53 is the new 33, it isn’t old anymore and she still has a lot of life ahead of her. Maybe point out something she has that you’ve always wished you did, like her eye color, or eyebrows or something like that. I think the spa thing is a good idea too. I don’t know what your relationship with her is like, but treating her as one of your girlfriends may help to show her that you still see her as a fun woman and not some over the hill mother. Be careful if you suggest anti-aging stuff so she doesn’t take it the wrong way.
