My 16 month old son has stopped growing, should I be concerned?

stacieandtony asked:

My 16 month old son is 29 inches tall which makes him in the below 3 percentile. The bad thing is, he has been this tall for the past 6 months. I spoke with the pediatrician and he seems not to worry about it but he mentioned he has been declining in his charts. He also said if he does not grow at his next visit he will start obtaining blood test to see if anying is wrong. Now my husband is very short, 5’5 and myself 5’7. Also my husbands parents are short, mother is 4’11 and father is 5’6. For my parents, mother is 5’4 and father is 6’1. But, the doctor stated he should be growing at least something, should not be going over 6 months with no improvement. I don’t know if this makes a difference, overall healthy baby but has asthma and allergies. Any advise would be helpful!

Sorry, I can’t give you any advise, but I can tell you what my parents would tell me all the time when I complained about being shorter than all my other classmates. “Good things come in small packages.”
I’m a senior citizen now, and never made it over 5′. Over time I came to appreciate my height (or lack thereof).
He may just start shooting up once he reaches school age or even puberty. I would not worry too much about it. Just give him a lot of encouragement in the talents he has. He may not be a basketball player, but he may be the President one day. You just never know.
