Is foundation and powder still aging even if applied properly?

Inquisitive girl asked:

My skin tone is a bit uneven so I use foundation to even it out…and my skin can get a bit shiny too so I usually use a bit of powder. But then I read that both make you look older and are unneccesary…if so..then what do you do to even out skin tone and to keep your face from looking like a reflective surface?

My suggestion is to stop using the powder, or at least dust it very lightly, The reason skin often looks older when heavily made-up is because it looks too caked. You WANT a little shine, this actually looks more youthful. You want to have a healthy glow. Or maybe you could try an ‘illuminating’ or ‘light-reflecting’ powder on your face, which will simulate this healthy glow instead, and you’ll look less shiny/oily.

Makeup can actually be helpful for your skin, if it has SPF in it to protect it from aging.
As long as you don’t cake it on, you will still look young.

Foundation + powder is a bad idea, period.
If you need that much coverage then you need to find ONE product that gives you the right coverage.
(Sometimes it can be a brush issue too.)
Either one will even out your skin tone, that’s a foundations purpose.
Another option is a primer. (Great if redness is the main reason you are trying to even out your skin tone)
Get a green primer (it wont be green once you put it on)
Powder is much lighter than a liquid foundation plus it helps with the shine.
Oil blotting sheets are handy to carry with you. Then you dont have to bring along all your make up and you dont reapply it over, & over again which can add up to that cake-y mess.

If you want to use a powder then find one that gives you the coverage you are looking for them set with a transulcent setting powder (translucent = NO color). Almay makes one if you want a drugstore brand, otherwise majority of professional brands make them as well.
